Welcome
South Africa, and specifically Stellenbosch in the Western Cape Province, will be hosting the Xth International Symposium on Irrigation of Horticultural Crops, from 29th January to 2nd February 2023. Stellenbosch is a beautiful University town nestled amongst mountains, and close to Cape Town and the ocean. It lies in the heart of a thriving horticultural region that produces excellent wine, many types of deciduous and citrus fruits, berries and nuts, vegetables and flowers. Not far away are production regions for indigenous teas and potatoes.
My Co-Convenors (Dr Nicky Taylor and Dr Carlos Poblete) and I are delighted and honored to warmly invite you to participate in this Symposium. We are well supported by our institutions, namely, the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, Stellenbosch University and the University of Pretoria, together with the Southern African Society for Horticultural Science (SASHS), and a team of dedicated colleagues on the Local Organizing Committee.
We hope that you will come to Stellenbosch to present your research (oral or poster), engage in discussion on the latest findings and technologies around crop irrigation, enjoy a stimulating field day, and make or reconnect with friends and colleagues from around the world. The Symposium will hopefully provide an opportunity, after three difficult pandemic years, for renewed personal engagement between researchers, academics and industry technical experts, and rejuvenating and enriching travel to a sunny climate.
We look forward to welcoming you in Stellenbosch, South Africa!
The Convenor,
Prof Stephanie Midgley
